Shem Oirere is a freelance journalist based in Nairobi. For more than a decade he has covered Africa's construction, chemicals, energy, water and agriculture sectors for international publications.
His reporting follows the money and the machinery: who wins the contract, who finances the refinery, why the railway stalls, and what a harvest means for the millers and importers who depend on it.
Before going freelance he worked at Kenya's national newspapers, including the Daily Nation, Kenya Times and People Daily, as a correspondent, business reporter and sub-editor.
